The Value City Arena is an athletic and multipurpose arena owned and operated by The Ohio State University. It houses the both the Ohio State Basketball and Ice Hockey programs and hosts concerts, exhibitions, and special events.
The Kirk Williams Company was the mechanical contractor for this project and handled the installation of the ice floor system for the hockey rink in addition to our normal responsibility for the HVAC systems. The state-of-the-art facility features as little as a 2.5-hour turnaround time for the conversion from basketball to ice hockey.
The building’s scale and design made it a unique installation. The arena can seat 17,500 people for hockey, 19,500 for basketball, and 21,000 for concerts. From the floor to the roof, it is 136 feet, and it also houses 52 luxury suites.
The facility’s size and scope required two 1,100-ton and one 600-ton chiller, as well as 27 air-handling units.
